Athens summer school on Byzantine Art [15-26 July 2024]

The School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens presents a Summer School on Byzantine Art [15-26 July 2024].

Byzantine Aesthetics is one of the most distinctive periods in the History of Art with its own, very particular style, immediately discernible and which sxerted a major influence on the evolution of artistic expression and aesthetics.

This intensive course explores fundamental aspects of the world of Byzantine art suchByzantine Philosophical Aesthetics, Byzantine Painting and Byzantine Music.

Workshops will allow students to gain an in-depth understanding of the theory and practices of Byzantine Art. A series of visits to important archaeological sites, monuments and museums will allow an understanding of the distinctive Byzantine style.

The program includes daily course class sessions, smaller discussion sections, as well as field trips, excursions and activities that will allow participants to delve into Greece's Byzantine artistic and cultural heritage.
