Athens Summer School 2023: Byzantine Aesthetics  [15 July 2023 – 30 July 2023]

Overview:
The School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in collaboration with the Athens School of Fine Arts offer a fascinating Summer Program in Byzantine Aesthetics.

Byzantine Aesthetics is one of the most distinctive periods in the History of Art with its own, very particular style that is recognizable at first sight and which exerted a major influence on the evolution of artistic expression and aesthetics. This intensive program aims to introduce participants to the magical world of Byzantine Aesthetics, Byzantine Painting and Byzantine Music. The program includes workshops that will allow students to gain an in-depth understanding of the theory and practices of Byzantine Art and a series of visits to important archaeological sites, monuments and museums that will enable students to delve into the sublime Byzantine universe.

Venue: School of Philosophy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.

Date: July 15, 2023 – July 30, 2023.

Course Format and Length: In-Person, 8 days programmed courses plus examination.

Language of instruction: English

Eligibility: Students of all disciplines as well as art lovers are encouraged to apply.

Cost: 2,000€
The program fee includes:
  - Tuition
  - Tickets for public transportation (metro & bus) in Athens
  - Scheduled program cultural activities including a trip to the island of Hydra
  - Course materials, Miscellaneous

Accreditation: On completion of the course, each participant will receive academic credits and a certificate of attendance.
